A Place to Be is a Northern Virginia non-profit dedicated to transforming people’s lives through Music Therapy and the Performing Arts.

Founded in 2010, A Place To Be’s mission is to help people face, navigate, and overcome life’s challenges using the therapeutic arts, specifically through the clinical and evidence-based interventions of Music Therapy and Expressive Arts Therapies. We believe that the arts, particularly the therapeutic arts, have the singular ability to cut straight to the heart and mind of a person, creating transformative results in both the participants and audience members.

All of A Place To Be’s core programs are rooted in this mission, which serves individual therapeutic goals, while educating and raising community awareness, consciousness and empathy.

Serving over 300 families per week in Northern Virginia and offering Music Therapy within INOVA hospitals, A Place To Be uses the arts to help people find their voice and alter their mind, bodies and hearts. A Place To Be provides a place for people of differences to find a community.

Each year this organization offers The Same Sky Project, a poignant and powerful show, to middle and high schools in the Northern Virginia and DC areas. This show helps spread acceptance, diversity and empathy. Within the last few years approximately 50,000 people have viewed this show. The Same Sky Project has performed in front of the American Music therapy Association, The Department of Education, and in May of 2016 was the keynote performance at the National Institute of Health.

A Place To Be believes everybody has a hero inside of them, and their work makes those heroes shine. For more information about the organization, check out this YouTube video:
